The phones I'm looking for need to completely fit in the ears (for sleeping on sides with ear to pillow) and make very little pressure, so that I could easily forget about their presence. I'm willing to spend up to $50. Since they would be used mainly for listening to audiobooks, sound quality is #2 priority, comfort is #1.

You definitely won't wake up with ear pain. I've slept in EX71s fine many a time, plus they're cheap enough to not worry about breaking them due to "bed movements".

or you could try these out. No clue about how they sound, but they're from our new sponser. I'd be interested to hear about them.

They're using Shuure tips.

For me, Sony Ex70 or 71 are more confotable than Shure Ec3. Sony erabuds are perfect for your usage and for the price.

I found that when I wore EX71s to bed, if I slept on them the sound was muffled on that side.

On the other hand, I can sleep with ER-6s/ER-4s perfectly. Might have something to do with my pillow though, I have one of those memory foam thingies.

the problem with sonys is that one morning i woke up and the right driver no longer works. i had them for about a year. don't know if it's just me or sleeping with earplugs in general but this led me to no longer trust sony's quality (my e268's died in same fashion prior to the ex51, though they were used less often and lasted 2+ years).
