Really enjoying the new album. I find it a little too poppy at times, but the rest is really melodic, disco-influenced synth.

Already a big fan of:

The Presets
The Faint
Does it Offend You Yeah
Ghostland Observatory
LCD Soundsystem
Fischerspooner

Other groups I should look into?

Very much my cup of tea. So I'll throw some stuff out there.

Breakbot
Cut Copy
Van She
Bag Raiders
Flight Facilities
PNAU
Parachute Youth
Mitzi
Classixx
KAMP!
Muscles
Dragonette
Penguin Prison
Sneaky Sound System
Grum
The Swiss
City Calm Down
RUFUS
Ladyhawke
Tim and Jean
Strange Talk
Goldfields
Robyn
Vanbot
Passion Pit
Roisin Murphy
Neon Indian
M83

Bit way more of a tangent:

RAC
Twinsy

Dimitri from Paris
Touch Sensitive
SHAZAM!
Cassian
Blue Satellite
Airwolf
Moon Boots

Heaps that I can't think of, I'm away from my music stash.

Wow; thank you.

A bit to much for me to sift through here...

Can you give me 2-3 of the "must-haves" of the above?

I like that Empire has this groovy-disco vibe to it but also enjoy the slightly harder/darker/dancier stuff, ala The Presets too.

Fair enough, I like just compiling name after name and the process of finding what I like from all that the information overload... but that's me I guess.

I'll give you some in track form, might be easier to soundcloud/youtube/whatever to see if you like them. Hopefully you've already heard some of this, otherwise what rock have you been living under ?

Can't define it down much more... it's too hard.

PNAU - Embrace | With You Forever

Empire of the Sun is Nick Littlemore and Luke Steele, but also with the help of Peter Mayes and Donnie Sloan. PNAU is Littlemore and Mayes, so a natural recommendation if this is what you're after. Embrace features the vocals of Ladyhawke, who I'll come back to in a sec.

Cut Copy - Far Away | Take Me Over | Saturdays

Doing electro-pop since back when it was indie.

Van She - Kelly | Changes | Jamaica
The Bravery - Time Won't Let Me Go (Van She Tech Remix) | Feist - 1234 (Van She Tech Remix)

Liars, orange juice does stain. One of my favourite bands, as Van She Tech they did some amazing electro remixes, their moustachioed synth wizard Michael Di Francesco is currently doing a bit of solo noodling as Touch Sensitive.

Miami Horror - Holidays | Moon Theory

Can't believe I forgot them initially. Well worth a listen.

Ladyhawke - Another Runaway | Back of the Van | Blue Eyes

Ladyhawke was in a band with Nick Littlemore way back when, Di Francesco from Van She also helped out on Back of the Van.

Lots more but I'll cut myself off here, so many more to share...

For pure disco-ishness, because I'm obsessed at the moment, honorable mentions:

Bag Raiders - Shooting Stars
Flight Facilities - I Didn't Believe
Breakbot - Fantasy
The Swiss - Eliousa
Classixx - Holding On

The Swiss have toured with/backed Empire of the Sun, Ladyhawke and Donnie Sloan has been involved as a producer/collaborator with them. Not to mention all the the touring a lot of them have done with each other...

There is method to my madness.

More Presets style, harder with more grit, Justice or Boys Noize perhaps ?

Okay, I'll stop.

Dont stop...dont ever stop!

Keep em coming...

Some feedback for you: in this particular space, I either love the band, or cant stand them.
Reason being, some have a little edge, most are downright annoying (to me).
I bought In Ghost Colours but cant seem to get into Cut Copy...the singer bothers me.

Is there any music in this genre thats just a bit darker and not so poppy? More like the Presets, Ghostland Obersvatory, Does it Offend You Yeah and maybe even Fischerpooner?
I guess Empire is not dark, but there is this somewhat intangible, catchy aspect to them is just addicting.

Also, I am an album-buying guy so let me know which is best to start with.

Thanks Splaz!
