I have been searching these forums for the past few months and I have decided to narrow it down to a few. I don't have an amp just yet but will get an amp as soon as I rack in enough cash. I listen to almost all types of music but mostly listen to R&B, Electronic, New wave, Pop. I have a feeling I'm a bit of a bass head. Currently only owning a Image X10 wanting some Cans.

I want to try to use open cans because I have some stuff happening around the house i have to pay attention to. Price is about 300 max. Here are the few i have narrowed down to.

AKG k701
Ultrasone 2500 / 750 (Only if it is worth the extra 50 dollars)
DT880 250ohm
DT990 (Too bright maybe?)

Some audio technica's, ATH-AD700 or AD900?
Closed cans however have generaly more bass.

I have heard that the AKG k701 are a nice detailed phone just the sort of thing for electronica,or you can go for the king and get the SA5000.

nah, they're efficient and easy to drive phones, but the ad900s should improve significantly with a nice amp

Get rid of the K701, dt880 and dt990 unless you are willing to spend the same $$$ on an amp too.

ATs don't need amping. Could look for some closed cans for more bass [quantity]. Ideas being the Shures [SRH440, SRH840], Denon D2000 or AT M50s.

Hmm, well I do need open cans, due to some problems and I am willing to spend some money on an amp. The AD900 do sound good though, and how about the Ultrasones? I also read on a couple threads that the Shures are lacking bass too... Sucks i dont have anywhere to audition the phones here.
