recently I picked up some monster miles davis tribute iems and noticed that when I remove the left monitor I hear massive distortion. this only happens when I am listening while the tip is completely out of my ear.

is this a defect or is it a common thing with iems?

Four questions before we can help:

1.)  Where did you buy your Monster Miles Davis IEMs?

2.)  Does the "distortion" go away once they are fully seated into your ear canal?

3.)  Would you say you have the volume level set to loud, medium, or quiet?

4.)  Describe how you are listening to your IEMs.
For example:
iPod Touch playing mp3 -->  Bithead --> DT990 ( 250Ohm ) headphones.
Volume on iPod set to 90%
Volume on Bithead set to 30%

Answer those questions and we can certainly help you out.

Sounds like driver flex to me. If it really bugs you too much to hear it as you're taking the earphones out, you can probably return then. I wouldn't worry about it personally.

I purchased them from best buy (an authorized dealer)

yes, the distortion completely disappears when a seal is created (only left had distortion)

distortion happens at all volume (my comfortable listening levels are between 35%-60%)

ipod < LOD AUX Connector < Fii0 E7 < Monster MDT headphones

thanks in advance
