Product #16150 $29.99 ($23.99 with promo code CM2016 [Correction] on 28 [/Correction] Nov 2016) has 50mm drivers, "15Hz ~ 25kHz" response, 32 Ohms, 94dB ±3dB sensitivity and a 3m attached cord.

Reminds me of my venerable Panasonic RP-HT1000 as an interesting cheap entry level (potential) high performer.

Experiences and commentary welcome.

Looks like the promo code expired yesterday (the 28th).  Are these a new product?  I'm guessing there are no impressions as of yet.  I'm looking for a more comfortable replacement for the 8323s.

Delivered and burned in by two days playing a selection of live King Crimson from their current tour loudly from an old Sony STR-DB840 receiver in the basement, yet audible on the second floor. Now playing Kenji Kawai's "Ghost in the Shell" soundtrack* from my Nexus 5 through a FiiO E6 (though amplification is not needed) and initial impressions are very good for both sound and comfort.

I intend to post a review on the Monoprice Modern Retro Over Ear Headphones (#16150) page.

*[The opening track, "Uta 1 Making of a Cyborg" alone is excellent demo material, having big drums with fairly deep bass, high cymbals or bells and female vocals.]

My review is posted.

PS. You can currently get these for $16.99 using code BBQ today to get 15% off the $19.99 sale price. If you miss this, there will be other codes. I don't know how long the "sale" price will last before they go back to $24.99. With no deals, shipping for just this item is currently $7.49.

Interesting, the pads probably will need immediate replacement.

You were not wrong. Following your advice and a recommendation, I replaced the firm stock pads with Brainwavz XL Pleather pads for $24.50, these are now incredibly comfortable and the better seal has made the already strong bass even stronger. The pads are very easy to remove as the material is simply wrapped around the outer rim of the earcups and peels off.

With the pads, these now cost $42.49, yet still extraordinary value. I paid $44.95 for my first Sennheiser HD439 and while I still regularly use and enjoy them, the Retro with XL pads is a class above in sound and comfort.

Here's The Z review with the recommendation and pads:

I have these and I am very underwhelmed. Z must have received a very special set from Monoprice.

I think they’re tremendously fun sounding cans for the price and thought Z exaggerated the discomfort of the stock pads which I find quite comfortable.

Maybe my source is too much for them, not sure but in terms of bass my slightly modded 1060c blows them out of the water in every way. He said the bass was crazy good but I find it average compared to say a DT770 80 or the 1060c.

Given that the 1060C costs roughly 10 times as much, I sure hope the 1060C blows them out of the water. :)

Highs are a little piercing for me on my DT770/32, not sure if highs are much different between the 32 and 80, I’m told the bass is better on the 80.

I don’t think even Z even was saying the Retro competed with much more expensive closed back models except perhaps on soundstage.

Mmmm maybe I was a bit hasty. I actually managed to get the T-X0 hybrid pads on it and they sound better than with the brainwavz pads. Bass goes deeper and it sorted out any harshness in the treble (i think there was a little bit), it wasn't bad but they sound so much smoother with these pads.

I might try transplant on to the Superlux frame so I can have the flappy bits and removable cable. Definitely leaving the T-X0 pads on it.
