Hi Folks,
I picked up a Monoprice M300 Open Box for around 47 USD a few weeks ago and I had a lot of issues with comfort. So I decided to make a list of a couple of mods to make them comfortable. The main issues I had were with weight (cord), in ear comfort (Ear tips), and ear placement (Ear clips). I found some pretty economical options out there
1. Ear tips, I had some difficulty finding cheap and comfortable eartips- I ended up going with these for around 6 dollars- https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BQ3Z3NB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . With the medium tips they are super comfy.
2. Cord, I ended up picking a short cord since I am using these for outdoor time and using a bluetooth receiver. The cord is FiiO - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HN1474D/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s03?ie=UTF8&psc=1. You can find longer length cord if you need it.
paried with a Fiio uBTR for around 20 dollars- https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KXDJBYJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1. I know the BTR3k is supposed to be better however, this combo works really well for while you're outdoors.
3. Ear clips, this was the hardest part, but I followed some of Frank's advice and I ended up getting- https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B4HF18C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 these for around 6 dollars. I had to cut the OEM clips where they started getting wider for the earloop. Then I proceeded to insert the clipped OEM clips into the holes of the aftermarket ear loops. I had to adjust the clear plastic by trimming off a bit of the portion to have the OEM clips reach the top of the these aftermarket ear loops.
All in all, you can do the clips and tips for around 12 bucks shipped off of amazon and you can probably find a cheaper light weight cable. You can get some excellent sounding Planar IEMs for cheap using the above method.
