Some people claimed 'Happy Songs For Happy People' was a step back too but I saw it as a step forward. I even emailed them to tell them not to listen to the critics and to do their own thing. They sent me an email saying thanks and agreed with me.

Happy Songs has some absolutely wonderful songs on it. "Kids Will Be Skeletons" is an amazing song. I think there tend to be two distinct camps of Mogwai fans, those that like the loud and raucous Mogwai a la some of the tracks on Mr. Beast and those who like the quiet and ambient Mogwai. Both versions of the band are absolutely wonderful so....lets all agree to disagree?

Well, after hearing Zidane first, and Mr Beast 2nd, it was like 2 different bands. I had heard Young Team, Rock Action, and Come On Die Young in the past, but only once through each. Zidane was plodding, and largely uninsteresting. Mr Beast was in your face practically from the word go. Hawk is Howling has struck a great balance between the 2. Mr Beast is still my favorite album of theirs, but Hawk is Howling is still completely great in every regard.
