Mogwai is finally realizing their potential.

While their work has been very good it always suffered from being a bit inconsistent overall. But this stunning album is their most focused work, their undeniable "masterpiece", containing all the facets of the Mogwai sound: from thunderous to serene, melancholy to jubliant, dissonant to melodic, only devoid of any filler or weak material.

This has got to be one of the BEST "post-rock" albums of all time.

I highly recommend it!

Ive seen your post a while ago and at that point I wasnt impressed with their new album so didnt reply. Couple months later I wont go as far as saying its the best post rock album off all time but that its definintely the most mature/balanced album from Mogwai yet. I think that especially their last albums are very well recorded and this one is no exception. Maybe even better. 2up for these Scottish boys.

Highlight of the album atm is track 4, Local Authority.

I like every Mogwai album I have heard. Never heard this one though so have to get it soon. I look at their music as soundscapes though and not really individual songs.

Saw them play a lot of this album live here in HK in a tiny, face melting venue a few months back and it was amazing.

All of Mogwai's stuff could be called growers and this one follows suit. I didn't understand the critical backlash on this album. To each their own.
