I will build a new cable for the HD650 and I'd like to try a Mogami cable. I am thinking about the W2534 (Quad) and the W2549 (Dual). With the W2549 I would use two cables, one for each channel. The cable will be terminated with a 4 pin XLR connector and used with balanced and SE gear.

I am leaning toward the W2549 cable, due to the larger gauge and individual shielding of each channel. Also with the Quad cable, the wires would be more exposed after they separate, as opposed to intact cables for each channel. I know the two W2549 would be bulkier, but I can live with that if the cable performs better.

My question is: aside from the weight and rigidity of the cable, is there any reason not to choose the two separate larger dual conductor cables (2 x W2549) over the Quad cable (1 x W2534) ? Has anyone compared both in the same system ?

Will your cable be longer than 200 meters? Because otherwise, it's not going to matter (Reference)

Cheers

I would use the 2534, carrying a balanced audio signal is exactly what its designed for. Besides trying to terminate two dual core cables inside an XLR socket will be nightmare.  I've not used the 2534 myself but the Canare equivalent L-4E6S, may be another option for you.
