Modding the RME PAD

Well, I went over it with a fine-toothed comb, but I can't find any shorts, or physical problems to speak of.

I spoke to Digi-Key's AD guy, and he said that it was likely a "latent failure due to manufacturing" whatever the hell that means, but they are sending me a replacement at no charge. So we will see in a few days.

BTW I'm not using it in it's current state. The entire time it has been not working right, all that has been hooked up is my Aiwa X222's (no amp) so there has been no theat of damage to my other stuff.

FYI RMAA tests when it was working properly were identical to before the mod.

now try to bias them with ~2mV into Class A and try to figure out how does the power supply work (if theres any filtering and such)..

also you might want to try a pair of 627s in soic, dont you?

I used silver solder that I got from Radioshack.

Glassman, I don't know about all that, the sound was so great when it was working I think that will be enough (short of designing my own external DAC)

I decided not to use the 627 since they are so darned expensive, and the AD797 has such great specs. Once it is owrking permanently I will really be stoked.

Well I've been screwing around with it for a while, and I don't think the opamp is dead, I've just not been able to get the adapter to make full proper contact with the board (apparently, the first time, one of the legs was barely connecting, and after hours of hanging upside down it lost the connection (hence the loss of sound)).

The problem is that I accidently and unwittingly removed the solder pads along with the original opamp, so it's a bitch trying to get this thing on there right. I've spent countless hours trying it, and just posted a thread in the DIY forum asking for some help on this issue.

Hopefully I should be able to get it working with a little help. I just can't stop trying, since it sounded so fabulous for those few hours it was working right.
