Hi guys, I plan on modding my Sennheiser HD 595 by making the cable detachable. Is there any specific way I have to hook up the cables?

I will be using this 3.5 mm socket, but I don't have any prior soldering experience. Is there a specific way I have to wire it up to the socket? Any advice/tips on how to make it look clean as well?

Thanks!

My advice is to practice with the soldering iron before cutting into your 'phones. Maybe get several of the plugs and some spare wire and get the hang of soldering. Soldering is not hard - but it's not something you are likely to get perfect the first time you do it.

And yes, you need to make sure you are putting the wires on the correct lugs of the jack. Google for "tip ring sleeve" and TRS jacks.

welp, so I've gotten the hang of soldering the problem that lies is that after cutting off my (already damaged cable) it has 4 wires, a white, red, black, and blue one. The 3.5 mm socket I have contains 3 terminals.

In other words, I have no idea which one goes where.
