I'm building CMoys for myself and a friend. My friend has a pair of old Sennheiser HD560's (not 650's, unfortunately) and I wanted to modify the gain to better drive his cans. Short of just swapping resistors in and out until we find a gain we like for them does anybody know around what value I should shoot for for a gain that would suit these Sennheisers? I don't know the specs on these cans and they're old enough that there is almost nothing on the web about them but I was hoping to call on the expertise and experience of some of the members here who might know more about these and what works for driving them. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

it might help, I think a gain around 4-5 sounds reasonable based on what I've read.
good luck

there's no hd 560 manual in there.
iirc, the 560's were relatively rare when compared to the rest of the line.
rather than try and find data on them, start by measuring their impedance if you don't know it. if you do, let us know what it is.
if it's 300Ω, i would say a gain of 6.
if it's 200Ω, go 5, and anything lower, go 4.
