I can give you a STRONG recomendation for Norah Jones! I initially saw her open for Dave Matthews lat month, and after that had to have her cd. I think it is a kind of Cowboy Junkies meets Joni Mitchell. She is truly amazing! this is one of those cds that I keep in my "cool pile" along with stuff like David Johansen, David Byrne and Kim Wilson (You know, ambient music you put on when friends come over so they think you have good taste).
Anyway, do yourself a favor and buy the Norah Jones!

Just to give another Norah Jones impression, I find her music to be rather dull, and her voice to have too much of that little girl sound. When I'm listening, I keep waiting for the next song to grab me, but it's always another droning on just like the previous one. I've tried to like her, but I've set her CD aside for now. Maybe it's a different story when you see her live...

Not familiar w/ Missy Elliot. As for Norah Jones, I have her album. It's pretty good, but not great. I think it's one of those albums it helps to be in the mood for.

I like them both! Norah Jones caught my attention via airplay and I can listen to the whole CD - a requirement for me. Very relaxing. I think she does a good job crossing genres and making the songs her own. A cinch for chilling with the AKG501s.

Now for Miss E - oh yeah! I like the 'MissE - So Addictive' CD. It's basically party music with some good samples from old school (like Parliaments' flashlight) fun to listen to and has good bass. There's a lot of synthesized sound effects. The 'pops' are simulated vinyl, not clipping. Good music to adjust the attitude for a night out. I also think it's better produced than most popular stuff out there. Lots of guest appearances - Ludacris, Busta Rhymes, Method Man, Eve, Alicia Keys. This is a job for the Grado 325s.

Absolutely right! Sometimes there can be quite a difference in styles too between the opening & main acts.

I saw Elton John in concert, at Dodger Stadium, around 1976. One of the opening acts was EmmyLou Harris, if you can believe. She wasn't very well received by the audience

I love that husky/scratchy quality in Norah Jones' voice. She has a great first album!

I have Norah Jones' new album and I think it is fantastic! I love her voice. I discovered her just days after she appeared at the local casino last month. Too bad, I would have loved to see her live. I'm looking forward to the next album.

I think Norah Jones did very good for her first album at her age. I would recommand this one too. Anybody gave Vannessa Carlton's cd a listen yet? What are your opinions?? For some reason, I really like that cd too.

I just did my usual every two week run to Tower Records today...they happened to have Norah Jones' CD in the demo racks. Didn't take me long to figure out what makes her so captivating with that upclose voice of hers, even though I didn't quite dig the music...I'm not so into slow jazz vocals myself. Nonetheless I bought the CD anyways...this is very likely one of those CDs you don't appreciate till you take it home. Came home with 5 new CDs, not a bad day at all.
