Ok, I have this set of headphones. I bought them as Sennheiser HD 555, and was charged accordingly. They look like HD 555: the outer part of the cups is silver-grey plastic, the grille is plain black, the cups are velour, etc. The box says HD 555, too (made in Ireland, 120 ohm impedance).

However, the headband says HD 515.

Anybody run across this?

maybe someone in the factory ran out of 555 headbands and grabbed a 515 headband? this sounds odd

Yes, it is... but undoubtedly it's nothing compared to the systematic appearance of cracks in the headband of certain other phones...

Anyway, you should be proud of being (almost) certainly the owner of a unique headphone!

Back when Amazon was having the sale on the 555s i ordered a pair and was promptly shipped a pair of the 515s, i got lucky and noticed the mistake (why would i expect them to screw up my order?) and sent them back to be replaced.

Amazon said they wouldn't be able to get me a new pair til Feb 24 (!), which i think is because Sennheiser is changing the resistance on the 555s (if not some others).

I'm not sure how this applies to your case, except that it might.
