You are reading too deep into it :p. It just means no additional equalizing or dsp'ing beyond what is on the recording. Simple circuitry isn't the only way to deal with emf, some manufacturers use a lot of shielding and smart placement of circuitry instead.

To me it makes sense to keep as original to the composer/musician/recording as possible. But, what is original and what sounds best is too subjective to make any objective measuring a waste of time.

That's why I always look at art (and life) through a funhouse mirror. I don't want to get bogged down in what the artist (or reality) intended.
