just got a new pair of Sony MDR 7506 Headphones on a tip from another Head-Fi Head. Wow are these things detailed. Maybea bit too much bass for me, but I'm listening on an unamplified Panasonic CT470 and it has plenty gain to drive these to nice sound levels. I don't know why, but I like these a bit better than the AKG 501's. Straight into the headphone input to my Apt Holman preamp sounds very even and smooth. These cans fit tighter than either the Sennhiesiers or the AKG 501's, so maybe they will become a bit uncomfortable over time, but I really like what I am hearing for $100 brand new.....the folding feature is also quite nice. Thumbs up and up!

Glad to hear you like your 7506's. I also own the 501's and actually prefer the 501's over the 7506's for home listening, although i do wish i had an amp that can drive them properly, maybe this is a problem your having with your 501's, they need a amp to be driven properly, and a good amp at that.

I could see that one coming from you Xander... hehe...

I would think he doesn't have the power to amp your 501..

Actually i'm starting to think that you have a special pair of the 501s??? I haven't heard them but you just love them so, SO much! - They have probably been exposed to uranium and cosmic dust during manufacturing or transport, giving them intelligence and super powers. Or perhaps yours got switched during transport with some alien super-future high tech wonder cans from a comet??

Oh, bedtime. bye bye

I love my 501's, they sound nice on my receiver, but i can definitely tell they need a amp! As for that other V6 hater, BAH HUMBUG!

Again, enjoy your 7506's!

I dont know what it is. No, the bass doesnt respond very low, but theres just SOMETHING about these cans when paired with good amplification that makes my ears pleased. Neruda and kwkarth seem to be bitten as well.

Well, I will be trying both the Sony MDR 7506's and the AKG 501's out with a pair of Senn 580's from Jan Meier...I'll be listening on the Porta Corda, I'm on the waiting list for a JMT CMOY, I've purchased a used ASL MG head DT, and the creme de le creme, I am waiting for my AES SE-1 (Cary) 300B amp to come back from Cary where they are installing a headphone input directly to the amp outputs and Alps attenuator. I should be able to hear all the 3 prs of Cans under all different conditions and report on the results...... Oh, I had a pair of Senn 600's with Clou Red cables and while they sounded great with a CARY SLP74 Preamp with headphone amp, the 1 WPC just didn't make them sing...always hoping for Sonic Bliss !!!!!

Holy testicle tuesday.

You prefer the 7506 over the K501s? These things must not sound anything like the V6's, then.

What if I said, I like my cheapo stock phones better then my HD600 out of a X-Canv2 using VDH "The First Ultimate" interconector from a Marantz CD6000OSE KI Sig ?

Xander, he said out of a portable

Given the 501's power requirements, it doesn't suprise me.
