Had a mini meet just a few minutes ago with Aliacha, spyder187, and Alan (forgot his Head-Fi username).
Gear in attendance was:
Stax Omega 1
Stax Omega 2
Sennheiser HE90 (couldn't hook it up, no adapter.. meeting again in 2-3 weeks when Woo arrives)
Stax 007t
Apogee Mini DAC
Sennheiser HD650
Sennheiser HD600
Singlepower PPX3-6SN7
Gilmore Lite x2, one with DPS
Shure E500
Lite DAC-60M
Lite DAC-Ah
I only listened to the Omega 1 and Omega 2. This was the first time I heard the Omega 1! It seems like Stax purposely decided to make the Omega 2 sound the opposite as the Omega 1 (in almost every way) -- the Omega 2 sounds a lot darker, is a lot more bass heavy, and has much more soundstage depth than the Omega 1. The 007t did not help the Omega 2 either.
I'll let the others elaborate on this, but the Omega 1 sounded very nice. From my memory it sounded similar to the HE90, but brighter (it was a bit sibilant on some tracks). The sound stage is quite forward (like the HE90). The bass was absolutely perfect, but it seemed to fade away as the meet went on (maybe that's my mind fooling with me). General consensus was that the Omega 1 was a bit too loose (it seemed like it would keep on falling off the head), so no headbanging!
Anyways, Aliacha took some pictures so he will put them up soon, and hopefully others will elaborate on the gear.
