Well, I've had my silver mini ipod for 2 days now.
Whoever says its just an iPod with a vastly smaller HD for just a few less $$$ has not used this player. It is much smaller. It is much lighter.

Sound - see below
I do have a major complaint though. Perhaps I just do not know the proper settings but I find the sound vastly inferior to my Nomad Zen Xtra. All of my MP3s are ripped with EAC and encoded with LAME at alt preset standard so its not a problem with my files. Further, I have listened with both Sennheiser MX400s and Bose Triport headphones so its not the phones.
In fact, I find the sound so flat, that I cannot tell my purchased itunes at AAC 128 apart from my LAME APS files. Therefore I have been encoding music at AAC 128. Might as well get more songs on it if the sound is not going to improve from a higher quality encoding.
I find the highs very strong but the sound has much less depth than my Zen and the cymbals are smeared on loud rockers. Acoustic songs with just guitar and voice sound great. Its really the drums that suffer. I have tried almost all equalization settings.
Anyone else finding this or is there a recommedned setting to maximize performance?
I have been listening to The Stereophonics, Oasis, The White Stripes, The Strokes, Sarah Mclachlan, The Thrills, Jet, Outkast, The Notorious BIG, and Sheryl Crow on the mini so far.
Other than the dissapointing sound, its the best player I have ever owned, and this is #9 for me. I owned a 2G iPod, but passed on 3G for a Nomad Zen Xtra (2nd best player and best for sound). I have also owned 50% of all Rio players ever put out, including the Nitrus.
