Hi folks,

I've just finished building a mini^3 but I won't have a battery for it for at least another week. Is there any harm in running it from an appropriate wall wart?

From AMB's page Schematic page on The Mini³ Portable Stereo Headphone Amplifier

Quote:

D2 and D3 protects the battery from "seeing" the output of the U2 regulator and vice-versa, and acts as an "or" gate, selecting the power source with the higher voltage to supply the amplifier.

Because I wouldn't be using a battery, am I able to skip (for now) AMB's checks if I have no shorts? Or could i do those with a 9V NiCad.. being careful not to plug the wallwart into the mini^3.

Thanks for the advice!

Tom

You should first perform all the initial checks at the Mini³ website with either a standard alkaline or NiCAD 9V battery to make sure the amp is working correctly. If you pass all steps (especially the last step of the battery chatging circuit test), you can run the amp on the wallwart without a battery. Note that the battery charging circuit test is done without a battery.
