Hey guys, and gals.

So I'm building a home theater system, and am able to afford some things I normally wouldn't. So I'm looking at a 5.1 setup, for a combo of HT and Music. I currently have a Schiit Modi, and Asgard 1, which I use for my Lawton Modded D5000s, Vmoda 100s, and a few others.

The purpose of this thread, is to find out if a AV receiver is equivalent or of greater quality of sound than my Schiit gear.

The receiver options at this point are:
Marantz NR1605 $700

or
Marantz SR7007  $900

I am not looking at going past this, so don't try to convince me otherwise. Im just curious if a receiver of this quality would make for a better DAC and Amp than my Schiit Gear, if so ill sell them, and use it as my Headphone amp as well as the power for my HT system.

To those curious ill be be using this for my HT system(unrelated to thread topic).

with some other Sub and Surrounds

So any thoughts or opinions?

I'd doubt it. I have had several generations of the Onkyo TX-NR 7XX receivers, which usually go for ~ $750. While excellent for home theater speakers, the amp powering the headphonejack is relatively weak. I don't know for sure whether the Martanaz is the same, but it's designed primarily for speakers, so I doubt it will be as good for phones as gear designed specifically for them.
