SOOooooooooooo how bad are they.

I currently use e3 when hiking and dont have a problem with them but want a something more detail. I hear all the positives of ER 4s but will the microphonic be a deal breaker?

If you wear them over your ear, I doubt it. That said, you'll probably have to insert them fairly far to practically wear them over your ears; small biflanges would probably do the trick. Wearing them like normal earbuds, yes, the microphonics are terrible.

sooner or later u'll encounter some forum member educating you about the search button :p or similar threads. Most of the topics will be answered.

but yeah the microphonics are reduced by using
1) Shirt Clip
2) Over the ear style (dont really like it its kinda fussy)

Note tucking the cable inside your shirt will still generate some sound.. but its not that bad really, when ure gonna be focused in the music... Also your breathing u'll hear it anyway :p

Both methods would reduce alot. to almost zero. but not completely removed.

If u are concerned about it just go for some other brand like Shure again.
