Before the biasing it sounded similar to the ad822. I can tell a big difference now.



As you socketed the OpAmp, you can easily try 637 if you want, the sound quality should be further improved........

The gain requirements on the 637 are too high.

IMHO in class-A the OPA134 sounds nicer than the OPA637. With no bias, definitely the other way.

You could use the OPA627 for the low gain.

I designed a pcb for 2 627s biased with a JFET cascode. I had hoped to etch it this weekend but something came up and I'm on my way back to school tomorrow without any double sided board.

So it will probably be another week unless I head to the Frys Electronics in Houston, which is about an hour away from my university.

On top of that my mouser order didn't come in.

As of right now I'm happy with how it sounds.

Tyll said they use an immersion soldering technique that not only solders the devices down, but also coats them. Perhaps you're seeing the coating on top of the solder?

Is it feasible to throw a discrete circuit (pile of transistors) in there, in lieu of a packaged op-amp?
