I have a weird problem. I connect a microphone to the mic-in plug, and actually see a response when making a sound, but I can neither hear it through the speakers nor record anything.

What can be the problem?

Try unmuting everything. Also, in the Master Volume panel, go to Options -> Properties and add the rest of the components to the list. The proper control might be hidden.

You may want to change the sample rate to 44100 Hz instead of 48000 Hz if you plan to release your recording or make it into a CD (which is 16-bit/44.1 kHz). It's also recommended to change it to 44.1 kHz if that setting affects playback sample rate.

I also had this problem with my Revo 5.1. The mic didn't seem to work with the mic input volume on max. I just lowered the volume from max one notch at a time to find the loudest volume that works.
