Fellow Enthusiasts:

I'm using an MG Head with Sennheiser HD600's. Looking to upgrade the stock tubes. The stocks tubes (Sovtek 6BQ5 and JJ Electronic 12AX7) sound OK but strike me as bit spitty, with a touch of glare in the upper frequencies with an overall grain or smearing.

Any suggestions? My preferences would lean towards a smoother high frequency balance (without going overboard) with more dynamic contrasts.

Yes, follow the thread that mbriant has cited. Most of that thread deals with rolling the 12AX7. If you don't want to spend a lot of money on NOS output tubes, upgrade to the Ei Yugoslavia EL84. These tubes are made with old Philips machinery and tooling and are identical to the Amperex Bugle Boy EL84. Amperex was a subsidiary of Philips. They don't sound as good as the original Amperex but for the price they are a steal.
