To the folks who have heard this combination, I'd like to hear your opinion: is the MG Head a good match for the K501?

I currently use DT770 with the MG Head and keep the volume knob between 9 and 10 o'clock. So I don't think power will be the issue. But I've read several posts saying the K501 are tough to power and tough to find a good amp to match them.

Maybe I should order one of those Perreaux everybody is talking about?

i use my k501s almost exclusively with my mg-head otl-h. i love it. i think it's a pretty awesome combo. it's still a little shy on the bass (i don't think anything short of eq is going to solve that) but the rest of the range just sings with the awesome k501 soundstage.

You'll have to use it on OTL mode, if you don't/can't then you'll think they are bass weaklings compared to the DT770. If you can listen beyond that it actually is very well extended.

The best part, besides the wide & airy soundstage of course is the mids, vocals & acoustic instruments really shine. This combination is magical for me.

I have the volume knob up to around 11 using 5751 output tubes.
