How is this Dac? I'm not talking about the V3 version.

The reason I ask is that it seems to sell for relatively cheap on ebay.

The other Dac I was thinking about is the CI VDA1.

It's slightly older technology. I believe it goes: X-ACT, X-DAC, X-24K, X-DACv3, but I'm not sure.

On the plus side, it should be modifiable.

For $100, how does it compare to the CI VDA1 ($350)?

Hi, I've used a MF X-ACT DAC in combination with a Marantz CD-64 SE for several years, the DAC was a great budget product at the time ( 175 $ in 1997 ), at that time MF made two DAC's the X-act and the more expensive X-DAC with HDCD support, they also made the X-10D Tube buffer at that time. The X-act got rave reviews in both Stereophile and What Hifi ( best buy in 1997 ). The X-act is ( was ) a great product but at 100 $ I think it's too expensive, also 7-8 years is pretty old for a DAC, DAC's have gotten much better in the last years and IMO the X-act no longer is an upgrade for the current budget CD-players or even DVD-players. I've still got my X-ACT but I don't use it anymore, my current Rega planet CD-player sounds better without it...
