Not unless you want to blow your amp up. The smallest value on that page is 4700uF you are looking for 1000uF (max around 2200uF) and PANASONIC FC are the best types for use in the X-Can in my experience. You will get them at www.rswww.com part number 315-0754 (60 pence each)

You'll need:

10 x 35V 1000uF Panasonic FC Stock Number: 315-0754
(replace both the 2 x 16V 1000uF and the 35V 470uF with 35V 1000uF)

6 x 63V 100uF Panasonic FC Stock Number: 315-0962
(replace all of the 100uF caps with these)

8 x 50V 10uF Panasonic FC Stock Number: 315-0805
(replace all of the 10uF caps with these)

Hope this helps. Before ordering open up the unit and just check all the values you'll need, they're printed on the cap body..... you can go up in voltage (ie: replace a 16V cap with a 35V type etc.) but don't go under the stock cap's voltage. The two caps (10uF) next to the potentiometer (volume control) can be replaced with non polar types if you wish.

Mike.

The amp has about 100 hours, I got a set of russian 6H23-EB. After installing the new valves the bass was ver dominant. However they have settle to a nice tight bass

What can I say, great amp and a great teacher (PinkFloyd). Thanks.

Hold your horses! The caps on that page are mostly ELNA starget, these days I recommend PANASONIC FC as they sound better, they're cheaper and they have a temperature rating of 105C (which means longer life) incase you totally missed my last post here it is again:

Parts available @ www.rswww.com

10 x 35V 1000uF Panasonic FC Stock Number: 315-0754

If you have gone ahead and ordered the Staget caps, don't despair, they're perfectly good and heaps better than the stock Jamicons. I just prefer the Pana FC's these days. Must get round to updating that V1 page I haven't looked at it in years

If you're fitting different opamps you're best to fit dip8 sockets. That way you can try lots of different chips out without having to desolder the opamps each time. The sockets you're looking for are the 8 pin version of these There used to be an 8 pin version of these (which I normally order) but they don't appear to be doing them any more. The 8 pin version of these is also OK.

Yes, they do "stabilize" after a few hours use and you have to remember these things literally do burn in, you just have to take one look at them and see them glowing! Good valves with a very long lifespan Miguel and you've got the advantage of being able to try lots of different valves over the years..... that's the beauty of the V3

HI PF, just wondering if you could help (again I know) powered up my x-can to give it a wirl before we start dismantling tonight, anyway I seem to be getting a farting noise through the right channel at certain frequencies I am not getting on any other amp, is this fixable and by what as I have just laid out the dosh on the valves etc it would be shame to render them useless.

Cheers Again

OK. Slip the board out and swap the valves over. If the "farting" noise changes channel then your culprit is the valve. Change both. Remember, valves do not last forever and ever, they eventually fail and it sounds like one is just about to in your amp.

All done cheers and after only 16 hours we are cooking on gas, It really has turned it around, bass is tighter and the vibrating sound I was hearing has disapeared, off to buy some HD600's me thinks.

Well Recomended.

Yep, deffinate faulty valve, 50 hours of use now and the sound is even better, however I have one of my Musical fidelity PSU's have gone bust so I am bypassing the X-DAC at the mo,

I am thinking about upgrading the X-DAC next, just got to work out how and will post up any noteable improvments.
