Hey guys,
I'm getting tired of my metal collection, need to freshen it up. When I say metal collection, I mean black and death metal such as Belphegor, Wolves in the Throne Room, Skinless, etc. Give me some recommendations as to what you think I'd like. Its much appreciated. Thanks.

i tried to keep the list short, but hey. i love each and every one of the above bands. I tried to cover a wide variety of noisy guitar genres, with the exeption of power/prog (Enverxis will be able to reccomend from that genre, its not my thing), and keeping it heavy.
have fun!!!

I don't believe Enverxis is very much into power/prog, either.

For myself, I don't really listen to the "purist" forms of DM/BM so much as the more technical and experimental forms, but nonetheless here are some favorites off the top of my head -

Cynic
Gorguts
Atheist
Death
Origin
Martyr
Negativa
Augury
Sleep Terror
Spawn of Possession
Gorod
Meshuggah
Cryptopsy
Enslaved
Behold... the Arctopus
Coprofago
Ram-Zet
The Kovenant (Covenant)
Alarum

I've heard really good things about Anata and Gojira, both of which were mentioned by jonnywolfet, but I haven't actually heard their music. Probably worth checking out anyway.

This year, only one album somewhat related with this kind of music really impacted me: Ashes Against The Grain by Agalloch. It is some kind of folk tinted progressive doom metal. More melodic than noisy. I did not know Agalloch and never expected this goodness from an american band.

Quite right, not an area I am that familar with mainly due to the fact that nearly every single band I try has a vocalist that makes me cringe (Mind you, some very good voices there, they just do not go down well with these ears

)
Will do some more digging eventually.

ask lmilhan or Iron_Dreamer instead

Indeed (although for me there have been a few more goodies, especially in Doom). One of the best releases of the year
