My father bought a Pioneer amplifier and two Melos speakers many years ago (they are older than I am, and I'm 24).
They were both used extensively for many years, then in the last house move they ended up in the garage.
When I needed a stereo for my own home I dug them up again (getting rather mad at my mom who had allowed them to go in the garage when I thought they were in the closet), but the woofers' cones had degraded into useless mush. I had to replace the woofers with two Ciare ones. The tweeters are still genuine Melos, though.

What puzzles me is that nobody seems to have any information about Melos (edit: typo corrected) speakers. I've searched the forum and all I can find are mentions of a headphone amplifier, which is something, but not what I'm looking for.

I don't even know if the speakers are supposed to be any good or what. They sound good to me, but I'd like to know just for the record.

So: do you know anything about this?

A side question: is there any way to rebuild the cones in the original woofers? The coils were fine, and if I could have the originals back (which I assume are better than the cheap Ciares I got) it'd be better.

Pics please?

There was another company back in those days that was named Melos wich specialise in guitar gear (echo chamber, pedal, etc.)

I'm still curious about those speakers.

"Mark designed all of Melos Audio's solid state and vacuum tube
products with George Bischoff from 1979-1999. He is also the
designer of the original, award winning Pipedreams Loudspeakers.
He is the designer of the new Scaena Line Source Loudspeakers
as well."

So it must be one of two models: the pipedreams loudspeakers ou or Scaena Line source.

sorry the Pipedreams and Scaena Line Source are not labelled Melos.

Various places sell rubber/foam surround and cone replacement kits (ex. eBay). You could try looking or asking around for something that fits if you know the specifications.

Ok then, here are the pics. They are clickable for the larger version.

The stickers with the Melos logo on the covers detached on their own accord and were lost aeons ago.

The woofers are the Ciare replacements. The originals looked butchier. I didn't throw them away, but who knows in what box they've ended up. I'll fish them out sometime and see if they can be repaired.

They are Melos BS220, as you can see from the sticker in the last picture. Googling for that, however, gives no results whatsoever...

very likely to be designed by them and made in Italy.

Seems nothing related to the Amercain Melos which is always mentioned here

Interesting, do you know about when these speakers were made? Infinity of California made their QRS (Quantum Reference Source) that used the same Strathern midrange quasi-ribbons in a line array along with EMIT tweeters in 1977. Be interesting to see who really was first or if it was a concurrent thing.
