i want to put together an amp with this crossfeed but i'm not sure what type of caps to use. the local parts shops around here seem to only cary electrolitics and ceramics. will these types work or do i need to find or order some metal film caps? also, how do these three types of caps differ in performance? i know how they differ physically but i want to know what the performance characteristics are of each. are their speeds different or their sounds....?

cheers,
puck

Wima film caps seem to get good reviews for your application but they are hard to come by in the US. You might see if Erix343 has any left.

Outside of that I think the Panasonic film types are pretty good and easily found. Sorry but I don't know the model.

Look up the Hansen boards parts list and see what caps he recomends for the signal path.

Actually it was/is erix that has/had the WIMA's, not eric343. Here are the Digikey part numbers for the Panasonic polyproylene caps in the crossfeed circuit.

C2 L/R - 0.1µF/50WV - P3104-ND
C3 L/R - 0.2µF/50WV - P3224-ND
C4 - 0.022µF/50WV - P3223-ND
C5 - 0.047µF/50WV - P3473-ND

Hope this helps.

thanks for the model numbers and info. i'm still curious as to what the characteristics of the different types of caps are. not just different brands but different types. for example, why should film caps be used in the signal path while eletrolitics should be used in the power circuit?
