Maybe "Theatrical Rock" ?
I have heard Meatloaf say that he always considered himself an actor not a singer and I kind of see the music like that.
Bat out of Hell was Jim Steinmans idea and its kind of like the Spinal Tap thing where the amps go up to 11, it just has more of everything, more production, more gutars, more corn .... and its fantastic both as a concept and to listen to. However I could never see the point of all the other albums after that. They were just more of the same but not quite as good, also the joke starts to wear thin after a bit. That first album though is a classic.
A British ingredient in our rockin' international gumbo.

I class him as a Stadium Rock artist.
I remember watching him in a movie about a year ago where he was a truck driver. He kidnapped a youg lady and her fella chased him all over the country and it ended with Meatloaf driving his truck over the ledge into a canyon.
I enjoyed watching that one. It was certainly b-movie territory but still enjoyable all the same.
