True, but I don't plan to walk around everyday across my campus wearing grados.

Yeah it's all personal preference... I like earphones more than headphones cuz I find earphones tend to give more detail and I don't see how headphones can give you bigger soundstage... Well at least the Aiwas are pretty good at this...

It just happened I came across them, I don't have any special strategy or browse eBay like every hour night and day to find them... so I consider myself pretty lucky really... now only if I'm just as good with other things lol!

I love my E484 as well and "yes" I use it a lot with my D-E905 discman, and my MD-SS323 minidisc portable. I still prefer the E484 to Koss-KSC35. When I want to go portable, my E484 is my first choice, then my E888. I just can't make myself to spend 230 dollars for Ety4 series. I've heard the Ety b/f and agreed that they are way superior phone to my E484....but the price, the ergonomic just didn't do it for me.

484 is not the best unless you have a DD9

I saw some of the eBay auctions krayzie won...any other sources?

Edited to add: and if you guys have any spares you feel like selling...

e-bay. I just got another 565 there. The 565 is a little smaller, I think, than the 575, which has to be one of the all-time best earbuds.

I would say it's certainly one of the top ones. I own one, and none that I have heard is better overall, though the 575 (discontinued) comes very close. It's an evap. saphire model.

What? I owned 484's but stepped on them in 1994 or 1995. I bought 565's then, as the 484's were no longer available then. I just got a set of 575's from a seller on e-bay, and they're very good, but not quite as good as 888's.

i was digging around some old boxes of electronics and came across a pair of e575 i picked up somewhere. right now i'm listening to tool's "aenima" mzr50<<cha47<<e575 not using the foamies. these earbuds are not as smooth as the e888 but man, they have a BIG sound. a little splashy but subdude in the treble, dry forward mids, and a big bottom end--huge depending on your fit. but boomy and loose. nothing a little modification can't fix. i'll report back after i take them apart and remove the inevitable filters, and do something about the bass ports.

this is the second earbud (small transducer) style headphone i've ever heard that sounded like a fullsized can along the lines of the koss kcs35 or even eggos. the first was the ety er-6. all other earbuds i've used sound like the music was shrunken down.

Purk-
What do you enter in the search field on Ebay for the sony earbuds? Do you type in Fontopia, or do you use the actual model number?

appar111,
It is very difficult to find that way. You can look for Sony MDR-E472 from many older Sony Discmans. The E472 (an E484 little sister) is a stock phones for Sony D-9, D-35, D-303....and...I can't remember. They are very difficult to come by.

So what I did was I called Sony parts center and get all the parts of the E484 together and assemble them myself. Here's the rundown of all the cost (I can't remember all the detail):

Drivers: 25x2 = 50 dollars
Wire+housing: 72 dollars
"o" ring: 3x2 = 6 dollars.

The total price was around 130 dollars, yes, it was expensive, but I have all the new parts. My E484 sounds ton better than the E888, and more musical than the V6. It probably less refine in the bass region than the bigger phones, but all else, this is king of an earbuds. I've tried the ETY-4P/4S and, "yes" the Etys were better but E484 is much more comfortable to wear.
