MCINTOSH LABS INTRODUCES NEW HEADPHONE AMP MODEL MHA 100

It turns out the OS only needs a tad over 11GB so the 60GB drive was more than enough. I totally failed in reducing files in the original drive to clone it to the new SSD and completely ballsed up the transfer. To cut a long story short, the hardware is now all fine but I'm re-ripping my CD collection. All over 2500 of them.
Those Joule power supplies look nice but were a bit spendy for me. I decided to try the waters with the Teradak. It's an improvement which now has me lusting with curiosity after yours.

Those Teradak power supplies look very nice too and affordable. If I knew about them I would also go for it.
Did you optimize your OS for audio server operation only?
Are you using the MHA100 USB input?

I haven't yet optimized the OS. I've been reading a lot of conflicting info on what should be done - if anything. So, so far, have done nothing.
I still need to move my whole rig into the spare room next door which is a "bit" better suited a to a small vinyl sourced tube amped speaker rig that I'm planning. Then I will disable the onboard wi-fi and connect it to the time capsule and use the wi-fi connection from there to control the rig by iPad.
Hopefully, by then, I will have figured out how to optimize the OS.
The Ministack is connected via firewire for the 1TB disk and USB for the CD Burner. I managed to find some nice short (6") cables to keep everything neat and the MHA100 is connected via USB by way of a Schiit wyrd.
I'm considering replacing the Wyrd with a Bryston BUC-1 in a fit of gadget lust. Not sure if it would be redundant or not.
The Mac Mini also feeds a Electrocompaniet ECD1 DAC by way of a Sonic Frontiers UltraJitterBug via the Mini's optical out. This in turn runs the Woo2.

The LCD-XC are new and after a few years on the DX1000s exclusively, I'm having an adjustment period to their treble energy. I'm rather hoping it gets tamed a little as the cans break in.

FWIW, I am now seriously wanting to audition the HE1000s on the MHA100.

I had a chance to audition the HE1K at the last Toronto meet with my MXA70 and man was it sweet!! TBH, as sweet/fun as it was, was it work 2x the price of a pair of HD800, not really. If money was no object, then I'd get a pair. Other than that, I'll stick with the HD800.
But that little voice inside of me is saying Shure SE486 (for my AK) and then the HE1K. The then wife voice jumps in..

General buying questions on those who bought the amp:
Where is the best place to buy? And are they popping up as used anywhere?

Thanks

I bought mine from Jordan Acoustics but they are based in little old England so of no use to you I imagine.. It was shipped from New York and took a couple of weeks to arrive - Awesome device :)

I bought mine form my local McIntosh dealer (the first one they sold as they were released). I have seen just one pupping up in Audiogon sometime ago.

I bought mine from a local dealer and carried it home. I strongly recommend it. The only thing missing is a pho stage as i decided to buy a McIntosh MT-5, but now have to figure what to do for the preamp. As previous post Audio Classics may be a good place for used MHA100 if they have it.

I bought mine at Magnolia but I've also purchased from Audio Classics, they are always worth checking out.

Thanks guys for the help. I can expect a price range of $5k for this amp, correct?

Cheers

Unless there has been an increase lately I am pretty sure the USA MSRP is $4,500.

Hi all.  I am having an issue with the MHA100 and was wondering if others have been experiencing it too.  Although the unit sounds great, whilst working, it has a serious (software?) glitch:  The USB signal often drops out, requiring a shut down/start up each time.  Sometimes I even have to switch it off 3 or 4 times and wait for a while for it to re-lock into the signal.  I have noticed that this happens mainly when I pause a track or when there is a switch in the signal (e.g. when I change from track to track, when I hit pause on a track for a few seconds, whilst I am editing video during which the audio comes in and out, etc.).  This affects the USB input signal and relates to both HP out and speakers out.  I think I have read here that others have had issues with the Firmware (v1.0 still, I guess?) but my issue sounds quite severe.  This happens almost every listening session so it get quite annoying.  I tried getting a better USB cable (Audioquest) in case the table was the issue but no change.  Any ideas?

I haven't experienced any issues like this. I had some weird power ON issue where my unit would just turn on by itself, I reset the system and it seemed to have something to do with using a UPS. Haven't had any issues since I got rid of the UPS.

What software are you using for audio playback? Have you tried a completely different source using USB?

I am using a late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina with OS X Yosemite (10.10.4) and this problem occurs with anything that runs on the computer (whether it's iTunes/Pure Music, web browsers, iMovie, etc. - basically anything that outputs audio).  I also tried a second laptop with the same results.
