any opinions here on which input for the D100 sounds better, USB or optical? Currently I am using USB and I think it is spec'd to higher bit rates and depths but 96/24 is the highest sources i have running from jriver media center.

I've found the USB is the best for all - up to 192/24
Given that Michael Goodman from CEntrance put his magic into the USB DAC section of the D100 - it doesn't surprise me.
It's my main DAC these days - and I run USB - or my SonicWeld Diverter into the SPDIF - the optical wasn't terrible, but
I like the fluidity of the USB DAC
what is the idea with using a separate power switch instead of just incorporating it into the volume control? I have always preferred gear that requires you to turn the volume to min in the process of turning it off and readjusting it when you turn it on. One volume knob that clicks on and off or even pushes on and off (if you really want to allow for leaving the volume fixed when you turn on and off something which i don't like because who knows what mood i was in last time i was listening to it) and a jack for a headphone, nothing more nothing less. I am a minimalist at heart i guess... a less is more type.
i think to me the biggest clutter elements are the 'DXC' graphic, the knobs inside knobs and their associated text, the remote window and the text above it, the always on led display which to me distracts from the beauty of the 2 power meters, and the red switch. seems the headphone jack is pretty obvious what it is for, no need to label it.
But I'm still waiting for someone that has experience with Abyss AB1266 and He6 on MHA100. These two headphones are the most difficult to drive. I'm wonder if MHA100 has enough power to drive Abyss or He6 to it's full potential.
For LCD-X which very easy to drive I'm already satistied driving it from Graham Slee ULDE.
I don't own the Abyss but I own the HE-6 hardwired wit the Zeus cable. I was driving the HE-6 with a Threshold T50 (50 watts/ch Class A @ 8 ohms or about 8 watts/ch @ the 50 ohms of the HE-6) sounding exquisite. Now I am driving them with the MHA100 and to be honest I do not miss the T50 (which is actually for sale right now). I have tried them out of the headphones output with the high output and high impedance setting (that's what the guys from McIntosh recommended) and also out of the speakers tabs. To be honest I could not hear much of a difference. If any maybe out of the speakers tabs they have just a little tiny more body in the sound but it is really difficult to distinguish IMO.
Great pic. You guys always run a first class operation. Audio360 is a beautiful website. I look forward to your review. Thanks for all the great work you do for this community.
