I'm not sure if official, but seem to recall something about a "german headphone company, not Sennheiser". So yes.

Yes It's Beyer.

Mike, could you compare the Mac vs the Phonitor 2?

Phonitor 2 is more precise while MHA-100 is easier on the ears.  If you got AKG K702-65th/K702/K701/Q701, you have to hear it on the MHA-100.  #Killer!

and what about the quality of the internal DAC ?  It is up to the task ?  same level than the D100 ?

Classic Mcintosh design with the blue lighting and the meters. It's good to see them coming up with new items, especially something for the head-fi market. But at a price of $4500......

If only they can offer one without the DAC, yet be able to use balanced headphone cables...

I have a tough décision to take :) :

now that the MHA-100 is available, I need to decide if I confirm my order for the Eddie Current 4-45 or if I go instead for a McIntosh MHA-100 which is, I agree, definitively another animal, but also in my radar.

wow.. the MHA-100 sounds like it can be an end game for me and a great all in one box.  If the DAC is as good as my Naim, then I'll just save for it.  Was thinking of getting the matching Naim amp and adding a pair of Paradigm S1 or S2's. May just go for the MHA-100 depending on impressions and having a change to audition it.  Glad to see it mates very well with the HD800.
Will be watching this tread for reviews and impressions.

I agree, The amp is probably worth about $1500. The rest of the change goes into the looks and the McIntosh name. If it was $2500 less, then well talk. LOL

If I ever get the chance to hear one, then MAYBE it is worth it to some people. But it would have to sound amazing for its current price.

How can you establish a price for it when you have not listen to one or even seen one in person?
There are several amplifiers (and I have owned some of them) with a higher price of your suggested price that are not even close to the build quality and sound of the McIntosh.
While I agree that we are all entitled to our opinions at least let's base them in some hands on experience with the units in question.

True the MSRP price tag is steep, but that's not real world / street price.  Dealers can work with you on price.  The only reason I ended up with mine when I did was because it was offered well below the $4500 price tag.

Not saying cheap.  Still the most expensive single piece of gear I've purchased.  But for a DAC/AMP that also pushes speakers I could justify it.

So you are also using it's internal DAC ? Most people here use the MHA100 with a separate DAC that they already have.

--> How the internal DAC perform compared to séparate TOL DACs ? Very interested to hear your feedback ..
