Am considering to purchase this vintage component, or perhaps the 1900.

Does anyone know how my SR225's may sound from these units?

I don't yet have a headphone amp and am hoping like to kill two birds with one stone. Thanks -Tim

I don't have personal experience with MAC-1700, but many pre-1980 Macintosh products have decent headphone out. My C28 preamp has a built-in head-amp which would easily compete with any headphone amp around $300. One thing for sure is that you get a good radio, int-amp and headphone out at a reasonable cost.

I haven't tried it with 225's but with my Grado-HF1's and Senn 650's it sounds great. I have both the 1700 and 1900 - both built like tanks and sound great once you have them aligned and brought up to spec.

Both the 1700 and 1900 should sound quite nice with headphones or speakers. The 1700 is a SS integrated w/ tube tuner section, while the 1900 is pure SS. Between the two models, I would personally pick the 1900. The 1900 was the replacement for the 1700, and reportedly has a considerably cleaner amp section. A close 1900 variation was also made under the Stereotec label as the model 1200. My favorite of all the Mac receivers however is the 4100, though they usually sell for much more than their older brothers. Here are some specs on Mac receivers -
