Maxtor Hard Drives

I've had 1 IBM, 4 Maxtors, 4 WDs fail on me. I have a 300 GB Hitachi "Deathstar" that's still working great along with two Seagates that have yet to fail.

With my experience... Seagate all the way!

The 340MB drive worked 24/7 for 12 years until I finally threw out the 486 it was in for lack of space. I'm a Maxtor fan for life.

Wow...how many computers do you have and what are they used for?

Different people seem to have different experiences when it comes to hard drives. It all depends on when the drive decides to fail.

With that being said, I have had 3 Maxtors fail on me within the span of a year, and I hope the buyout by Seagate will improve the quality. I have been loyal to Seagate recently because of their warranty. However, Hitachi are starting to tickle my fancy.

My Maxtor drives have been running for 2+ years and are very reliable, even more so than the WD ones I've owned. Maxtor and Seagate get my money over WD

I've been pretty lucky with hard drives. Only one I've ever had fail was a Quantum ~600mb a loooong time ago

I've owned about 20 hard drives over the past dozen years. My roomates 40gb Maxtor hasn't failed yet, but it developed a piercing whine, more annoying than then 60mm delta fan.

I use a USB Maxtor 60GB drive (in an ACOM enclosure) every workday, I plug it in in the morning and unplug it at night and then I lug it backwards and forwards in my rucksack. I have been doing this for close to 3 years and it has given me no trouble so far - I also back it up every single night.

currently i have a 300gb maxtor drive in my comp and it's still running well (*knock on wood*). before i got it i read a ton of complaints about maxtor but i still got it because it was cheaper and i needed the space.

here's hoping it won't fail on me.

Had my maxtors for more than 4 years. Still working. During the past 10 years I have owned a few maxtors. Out of maybe 12, I have had 2 crap out on me. I called Maxtor and they sent me replacments free of charge!

I reccommend Samsung Spinpoint. My maxtor drive, and the maxtor drive of a friend of mine have both failed at one point. Not fun. Especially beacsue I had to rerip all of that music. Gross.
