Matt Costa's new CD, "Songs We Sing", has just become my fave new CD. It replaces The Shins' "Wincing The Night Away" at the top of my list.

Why?

Well, this guys' earnest songwriting and solid foundation in quality folk & pop separate him from the rest of the pack right now, IMHO. The album leaps from style to style (folk, pop, blues, C&W) but manages to stay cohesive - not an easy task - especially for such a young man. I hear such influences as Buddy Holly, The Beatles, and Simon & Garfunkel and more contemporary performers such as Jack Johnson. With a foundation built on acts as solid as these, how can a talented singer-songwriter fail? Costa is a pal of Jack Johnson's (Costa contributed to the "Curious George" film soundtrack album with Johnson and Ben Harper) and this CD is on Johnson's own label, "Brushfire Records".

Pick it up now and give it a spin. You won't want to hit the stop button on your CD player. zD
