We're talking about their vocals in the prime of their singing.
When was Yorke's singing best? Mebbe in the late 1990s?
How about Bellamy's singing? Mebbe in the 2000s?
Is Bellamy's singing still getting better?

We do not consider their songwriting, frontmanship, appearance, and so on.

The inspiration for this poll was provided by:

Quote:

Presiding over the mix is frontman Matthew Bellamy, a man who seemingly
aspires to be both Brian May and Freddie Mercury ....
He plays guitar, ... but his strongest asset is his voice ...

(From the AMG review of 'The Resistance'.)

How far behind Freddie Mercury is Matthew Bellamy in terms of singing? (See the scale below.)

Suggestion
Give examples of albums and/or tracks where their singing is best, respectively.

I wonder, because these are two great alt-rock (mebbe some prog-rock, ...) English bands.
They have been both very popular worldwide and especially on Head-Fi.

Taking for granted that Freddie Mercury's singing was Phenomenal (5.0),
how would you rate Bellamy's and Yorke's singing/vocals on the following scale:

5.0 - Phenomenal (Maximum)
4.5 - Outstanding
4.0 - Excellent
3.5 - Very goog
3.0 - Good
2.5 - OK (Computer)

I like Matt a lot, but there is just something about Thom's voice that I find hauntingly beautiful. Not the same with me for Matt.

Thom Yorke is my vote.

What? lol. He paid tribute to one of his biggest influences in one song (United States of Eurasia). Really, one song, is biting off his whole vocal style? Actually, lets make this more specific, in that song he does a note progression that sounds like Queen exactly for about... 3 seconds? And he does it twice. So, 6 seconds he sounds like Freddie Mercury. Oh my god! -.-

Anyway, there are a lot of Radiohead fans on this forum :p. Radiohead are great, and Thom has such a beautiful voice.

But I'd definitely have to go with Matt. There is just no comparison to be honest. His cover of the french opera in the middle of "I Belong To You" has pushed my opinion of his singing. It's really good.

I don't know why the Queen influence on Muse chaps you so much, but it is there. It's evident in the refrains for Resistance, and I Belong to You as two more examples. And that's just speaking of vocal style.

For instance, I've added the Suggestion, and more.

It doesn't 'chap' me, just seriously exaggerated. I can only hear the similarities in 'United States of Eurasia.'

Don't see what's 'Queeny' about the rest you listed at all.

I had only ever really listened to Muse, but I checked out some Radiohead just recently. I like them a LOT more than I thought I would, especially OK Computer (which overwhelmed me, while Kid A underwhelmed me). And I love Thom's singing, which noticeably inspired Matt. But then I looked up The Resistance, and Bellamy's voice on The Uprising really grabbed me, and continued to on the rest of the album. I think he's improved greatly, and I have to vote him my favorite both now and in the future. I'm biased, though, because Muse was one of the bands which got me interested in music again.

I like Matt a lot more. Thom is a little irritating to me.
