Hey everyone, so I've had a matrix cube for many years and only recently added a Lyr 2. I didn't expect it to sound that different because I'm using fairly sensitive headphones (Denon D5000 / B&W P7). I did notice the bass extended a lot more with some more weight (6W will do that
), but that's about it.
Is it worth upgrading my matrix cube (which I'm using for the DAC) to a Bifrost? At the moment (and I guess I always have, but the Lyr exacerbates it) found the matrix cube to get a bit bright when it's turned up loud and the midrange always sounded unnatural (like being in a small room). These could all be artefacts of having closed headphones (which is a requirement since I listen at work)
I don't like lots of treble, nothing worse then gritting your teeth when you know that cymbal coming is going to hurt
It would be fantastic if anyone thats tried both of these DACs could give me some comparisons ... if not any advice would be welcome
