Does anyone know where I can find a headband cover that fits focal headphones like this one? I don't want my Elex headband to get oily after several years of use.
The Elex was one of my first few purchases and it sounded amazing the first time I heard it, particularly the punchy bass and sparkly treble. Over time I've moved on to more vocal centric headphones as I wasn't happy with this aspect for the Elex
After being in the box for a few months I went back to using the Elex and didn't feel as wowed as the first time I heard them. I tried using the oratory1990's EQ presets on the Elex and I've never gone back. They sound so much fuller and balanced while retaining the bass quality
Now I'm trying to find a DAP that would allow me to power the Elex on the go, and also to apply oratory1990's EQ. Does anyone here have recommendations for DAP pairings with the Elex?

Has anyone else had a problem with the stock Elex cables, particularly the XLR cable? I got the Elex in late November and in January one channel on the XLR cable suddenly disappeared. Massdrop (or Drop now) almost immediately sent me a new unit. (I asked if they could replace only the XLR cable, but they said their return policy required replacement of the entire package.) A few days ago, barely three months later, the right channel of the new XLR cable was suddenly gone. Unlike the first time, I could get the channel back by playing with the right connector, but it would often go out again if I moved my head and was always gone when I first put the headphone on. Decades of headphone experience has taught me that this problem will only get worse until the channel would be completely dead. I contacted MD support this morning and a replacement (again an entire package) has already shipped.
Obviously, I have no problem with MD support which has been terrific. Focal QC is another story. I use the headphone a fair amount (probably an average of 1-2 hours per day; it's my main music headphone but I primarily use the Sennheiser HD700 for movies/TV) but treat them carefully--they never leave my apartment and are placed on a chair next to my listening position with the cable neatly folded when not in use. I may give in and get a Periapt cable for the Elex. I have one for the HD700 and it's quite nice and a bargain.

Your experience is exactly the same as mine. I forgot which channel, but it was only one side. They refused to just send the cable. Instead of using the stock cables I got a more flexible aftermarket xlr cable.
Listening to Elex from EAR HP4 amp, it’s quite a big jump from WA6SE and Headamp GS1. The shrill, metallic character is gone, no more complaints about its tonality.
Oratory1990's EQ settings really make Elex much fuller sounding headphones, details do not disappear or overwhelm at any frequency anymore. Wow. I’m listening with Elex a lot these days...

Finally got around to trying the EQ settings on my Sony EX300. The frequency bands on the Sony don't exactly line up with Oratory1990's so I had to "approximate" the gain levels. I definitely like what I'm hearing even using an EQ approximation. Going to stick with it for a while.
Just got into the game with the Elex, and am quite happy with the tuning (paired with a Chord Mojo).
I saw lots of discussion about pad swaps and tuning impact, and it seems we are spoiled for choice between Deoni and Focal pads, but it's still not clear to me where I could get true elex replacement pads if I needed to (not Dekoni's). I rather like the stock tuning. Have I missed something, or can you not outright purchase the pads that come with the Elex anywhere?

I realise I completely missed the FOTM train on this...which seems a little silly as this thing actually warrants such frivolous celebration, because wow...just wow!
I’ve been looking for an upgrade to my old hd580 for a very long time now...and it seems as if flagship cans have a tendency to turn up the treble...y’know to inspire a little fake detail appraisal in the ears of the beholder.
But this Elex badboy does all the tricks of bright flagships..though without the killer icepicks in the high frequencies.
I am waiting on further descriptions because right this minute I am rather smitten by this can...which effectively means I completely overlook the warts and horrendous morning manners.
As for now? Swoooosh!!!
That’s the best I can do.
