Marantz TT-15 problems

I bought a new Marantz TT-15 turntable and a PS Audio GCPH phone preamp. No matter what I adjust, I can't get it to sound good. My crappy mp3s sound way better. The sound on the turntable is flat with hardly any bass. What am I doing wrong?
