* Many normal folks that is. Certainly not this crowd.

And with that setup the SQ is probably better than 90% of the people that listens to music. First thing I said when I got the 5001 and plugged the SR80 in was, "OMG, I have never heard music the way I'm hearing." That has gotten me in a lot of trouble, but no regrets

My 5001 remote has the OPEN/CLOSE button on the top left hand side of the remote as well.
When I press it, it automatically turns the player on from standby, and opens the disc drawer.
When I insert a CD and hit it again, it closes the drawer.

Same for me!

The self-closing tray is really the only thing I dislike about my CD5400. It always seems to close as my hand is reaching toward it. I really hate it when inanimate objects outsmart me...

I went to order the 5001 from accforless and they are out of them, crap. Now they have the CC4001 for $30 less than the 5001. I see it has the same DAC and is a 5 disc changer. I wonder if this is just as good as the 5001?

I really don't wanna spend more than $200 on a player. Should I get it or wait until the 5001's are back in stock, IF they will be.

The Marantz CD5001 will probably NOT be back in stock since its replacement, the 5003, has now become available.

Hi brown274: You can get a refurbished CD-5001 at INDEPENDENTAUDIOVIDEO.COM for $195. When you get there you have to pull down the Select Condition tag. Otherwise they will try to sell you a new one.

Thank You, the only bad thing about them is they are not a Marantz Authorized Online Dealer.

Yeah, that happened to me too. Darn. I think I'm gonna try and negotiate a price with a local dealer, that is, if I can find one that still has a CD5001 in stock.

Hopefully in a few months they will have the 5003 for $249 refurbed!

Ha! I called up a dealer and he said he only had the floor model, and would give it to me for $230 + tax. I called him up later in the day (I was getting desperate) and by golly, he found a brand new in the box CD5001 in the back that he had overlooked!!! All in all I think I nabed it for a little under $249 + tax. I called all the Marantz authorized dealers in the area and none of them had it, some of them tried to sell me the CD5003, telling me it was of better quality. I replied saying "Dont' they use the same DAC" that shut them up(well it didn't, but that's beside the point

). So I feel like I got the last CD5001 in the LA area. I am so happy. It sounds spectacular right out of the HP jack. Very clean looking and has good build quality. I am going to be listening diligently over the weekend, and then I'll give my impressions.
