A guy at my school is selling a marantz cc65se 5-disc cd player for $40. I know absolutely nothing about these, but I thought it might be a case of someone not knowing what they're selling. I couldn't find any reviews online, so do any of you know about it or can give me an idea if this is a good deal?

I haven't used that one specifically, but I remember a friend having a similar one a few years ago. It was decent, but not exactly memorable. It would probably be a pretty good choice if you were looking for a basic multi-disk CD player, but this type of Marantz stuff seems to fluctuate in value a lot in the used market. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful

Presuming it's a multidisk version of the CD65 it's from the mid - late 80's. I still have a CD65IISE which was actually my first ever player. Very very good machine for 40USD if it's in perfect working order. Needs a fairly laid back amp as it can be quite in-your-face compared to modern players.

It's multibit 16 4x oversampling, classic Philips TDA-1541 chipset, CDM-12 mech. All good stuff. The mech isn't quite upto die-cast Philips standards and can be a bit flaky so thats the only thing to be weary of especially in a multi-changer. I paid 450UKP in 1987 so this was a pretty expensive machine I'd say.
