I have a Marantz 2220 receiver that I use as my main home amp for speakers and headphones. I recently purchased a Technics 1300 turntable so I could listen to vinyl.
Unfortunately, there is some terrible humming/noise in the left channel on the phono input that pretty much makes it unusable. There is no noise at all in the right channel, and the noise decreases and goes away when the volume is turned all the way down. There is also no noise at all from any of the other inputs (aux, tape, FM, AM). There is a slight amount of noise present even with no turntable connected to the input.
I have tested out the turntable with my digital receiver and it worked perfectly so it is definitely not the turntable.
Does this sound like a problem with the phono pre-amp or perhaps the input connection itself? I cannot find any service manuals online for the 2220 so any pointers on where to look for problems would be greatly appreciated.
