Hi all, as you can probably see this is my first post and i just joined, but i have been browsing the head-fi forums for about a year now, its only now i've decided i want to spend some money on a portable rig.

Now i have done a lot of research and i think i know what im talking about, but i'd like some advice from some professionals because it is a pretty large investment for me and i want to make sure im doing the right thing. :p

* Please note that i usually listen to more electronic, house genres of music :) *

Ok so here is the setup i was thinking of:

My iPod nano 3rd gen 8GB -> Fiio e7 via 30 pin to 3.5 -> sennheiser HD25-1 ii

Now i live in Australia so my options are limited as i do not want to buy from overseas. I also would to buy from these two sites.

http://headphones.com.au/
I also have a pretty small budget. I dont want to spend more than $450 AU and i have to buy a DAC and AMP and a pair of headphones. I will mostly be using this setup to take to take to school, so it will have to be small enough to fit in my pocket haha.

Now i am pretty much set on getting the Fiio e7 as it is a DAC and AMP in one, and has really positive reviews and is highly ranked on the Head-fi Forums, and is also Pretty cheap. I have a question on how its going to work though. As i understand it, If i use the line out as the input for the e7, rather than the headphone jack to the e7, i will get somewhat better sound quality as it will be digital input to the e7 and the DAC will output analogue to the headphones. Please clarify if i am right :) If you can find a better DAC/AMP from those two sites, feel free to suggest it :)

I am pretty much decided on the Sennheiser HD25-1. I know that the sennheisers have superb sound quality and are very durable, although not very practical for taking too and from school, its fine with me to keep them in my bag. One question i have would be weather i get the 600ohm or the 70ohm one for my set up? the e7 is capable of up to 300ohms.

Also one final question, is a standard 30 pin to 3.5 cable much different to say this one? (http://www.addictedtoaudio.com.au/Cryo-LOD-SXC-22awg-iPodiPhone-cable-by-ALO-audio) because if there is i'll consider getting one.

thank you in advance for your help, it is much appreciated :)

I think that you can't go wrong with Fiio e7 or HD 25. Get a cheaper LOD and you're all set
