Until I wanted a lossless copy of an album in iTunes and an aac copy on my iPod Nano, I thought Apple had really created a slick product. Well, maybe they have and I just haven't figured it out yet.

I set iTunes to allow me to manually manage my ipod so I could delete songs from iTunes and not have them be deleted from my ipod.

First problem: somehow two copies of an album got onto my ipod, I have no idea whether they're both lossless, or aac, I just don't know. How can delete them, or better yet, find out which one I want and delete the other. I guess the bigger question is, how do I delete content from the ipod while managing it manually?

Second problem: how do I play songs stored on the ipod in iTunes, or is that impossible?

Aha, i had to click the arrow icon besides the ipod in itunes... never mind!

It takes Apple Lossless files on your computer, convert to AAC, transfer to iPod, and clean up your iTunes library. Works as a breeze!
