I'm prepping my 1990 ford taurus to go to the dump. And as I do this I get an idea to create some cool looking speakers using the speaker grills from the car.

I would be building my own speakers boxes...but what exactly does a speaker contain? I have some Paradigm atoms with a woofer and a tweeter; so I would want to model my build after that.

Can I just buy some speakers and put them in my box?
Can I buy some car speakers and place them in the box? Or are there better alternatives?

it all depends on what you really want to achieve???

Just a cool looking pair of speakers or a pair of good sounding cool looking speakers?

it would be relatively easy to achieve the prior, but to achieve the later there will be a little more involved.

what is your budget??

May I suggest going over to DIYaudio.com ?

They will cover just about anything you would want to know about custom speakers. After discovering the magic of single-point audio, their full-range speakers may be very appealing and are relatively cheap builds with great results.
