Hey everyone, first post here. I was directed here from friends and other boards.

I'm looking at upgrading from my turtle beaches which broke. I'm not sure if I want a headset, I would prefer to just craft my own using a mixamp because then I could use the cans I buy for other things besides xbox (like EDM and other music)

I'm going to get the 2013 Astro Mixamp to be able to throw on my own cans and seperate mic.

Looking at this mic:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00029MTMQ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?ie=UTF8&smid=AR02CRX04QZOL zalman 12 buck mic

Was told these would be good:

http://www.amazon.com/Technica-ATHM50-Professional-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B000ULAP4U/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top ATH m50's

Going to get this amp for on-the-go-use (school, lonnnng study grinds and possible the gym as it seems fairly portable, though I may be wrong lol)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0053KWDES/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&smid=AM2O1JUKI6X8W  E11

My budget is a few hundred bucks, maybe 300 ish?

I've considered 900 pros, as they are supposedly great for EDM and bass heavy music, not sure if the $300 list price for new on amazon is good or not, and I also don't know if I should jump in and buy a pair of cans that cost that much when I really have nothing established as far as audiophile equipment goes (all my music is 320k)

I've been doing as much research as I can, but I have information overload, I guess my question is:

Am I doing it right?

Everything I hear about the ATH--M50 is good for music, but not so much for surround sound.
Sennheiser HD558 open headphones, Amazon sometimes sells used ones for a good price.
