im right in thinking that if i take a felam and a male and just bridge across my signal posts im good?

That's exactly how I've always done it, and it seems to work fine.

If you're so inclined, you can pass the left and right signals over the terminals of an SPST switch. Switch open = stereo, switch closed = mono.

I was thinking I want to make a switch box some time, but at the moment i did like i said and its working great.
